I was going to say the same thing. and it's not only gun safety you
need to learn. firearms are worse than useless if you're not
comfortable with them. go to a firing range. learn how to handle it,
get familiar and comfortable with it, so you can load, arm and operate
it in the dark.
where I live, I don't feel i'm in danger. all my weapons are locked
away in a safe, bolted to the floor in my garage. If that were to
change, even though I've been around guns all my life, I would do the
same thing.

Defending yourself with a gun is neither liberal or conservative. It's just
smart. Do yourself a favor and take a safe gun handling class.

After events of the past week in Baton Rouge, even this liberal is starting
to consider purchasing a gun.
We've had two brutal home invasions, the first on Tuesday resulting in two
deaths, a 45 year old elementary school teacher and her 80 year old mother.
She had won last year's teacher of the year award.
The second happened on Thursday and involved an elderly couple with whom I
was casually acquainted. They live less than a mile from me. Both were
murdered in cold blood.
The police have a suspect in custody already, and the evidence is pretty
convincing that he was the perp in both cases.
