When my parents were in high school, the thing to do was "climb" Stone
Mountain and have picnics and hang out. When I was a kid I actually saw them
doing the carving.
Underground Atlanta has had it's ups and downs but it is an incredible place
if it is still in good shape.
Also the Varsity near Georgia Tech's campus is the largest "hot dog" stand
in the world. Multi-level, fast, quite an experience. But the neighborhood
isn't all that great around there. Ditto for Underground.

I second the Stone Mountain recommendation. It's the Confederate Mt.
Rushmore. I attended a conference at the lodge there a number of years
ago and had a great time.
