Not completely true. I have asserted my right to plead the 5th and the only
reason was that I didn't want to be railroaded. If I didn't talk, they had
nothing to attempt to charge me with. It worked, because they railroaded
another guy who didn't do anything either.
Good point. Here, even the 'good guys' (home owners, not the
transient-ish renters) hesitate to talk to the police for fear of
getting unintentionally tangled up in something they had nothing to do
with.
