Here in the north Texas area, we have a radio talent who was at the
University of Texas during the tower sniper's binge named Norm Hitzges. At
one point, he talked about an interview with the officer who went to the top
of the tower and killed the sniper. The officer said that he had to pass at
least 20 people who were shooting back at the sniper. Back in those days,
almost everyone had a gun rack in the back window of his truck, at least one
rifle and plenty of ammunition. He was amazed that no one had attempted to
storm the tower. 95% of the people killed and injured happened in the first
5 minutes of the ordeal. After that, you would have had to dodge "outbound"
gunfire in order to get in the way of inbound gunfire.
When I was in high school, we had a number of teachers who had weapons on
the school grounds. We knew they had them, as did everyone else on campus.
They were there to stop any unfortunate events like Virginia Tech. I saw my
vice-principal in Jr. High chase someone down with his pistol after school
one day. The person was a druggie who wandered on campus and was trying to
break the window on the cafeteria to see if there was any money. No shots
fired. Police showed up and dragged him away.
Different times today.

I believe that Judge has the same mindset as those who want to ban legal
guns.....
In the case of this Judge, he makes those who want to defend themselves and
others subject to penalties of they do so.
In the case of the Virginia Tech Administration, they naively thought that
No legal guns were the same as no guns...
God Bless Texas....

Yes, they did arrest them. They took them to the police department and
called me to pick them up.

Good for you, John. just another 'zero tollerance' policy that doesn't take
into account reality.
They really arrested and charged your son with assault and battery for
defending another kid from a bully?
There's a special place in hell for people like that.

Most of it stemmed from a policy where if any child is INVOLVED in a
physical altercation, all children will be arrested and charged with
assault and battery. The kangaroo who was the city judge didn't
understand that being struck is different that striking someone. He
also couldn't read the part of the penal code that states very clearly
that in Texas, you are allowed to defend yourself with such force as
is necessary to stop the aggressor to the extent YOU determine is
necessary at the time. In addition, his reading challenged extended to
the part that says you are allowed to defend yourself, your property
or anyone you determine cannot defend themselves. So, yes, my child
hitting another child who is relentlessly beating a smaller child
cannot be found guilty of assault, if they determine that the smaller
child cannot or is not defending themselves from the attack.
