Well, OK, thats a pretty direct question. Here's my view, and please
understand, it is just an opinion based upon my life and experiences.
When will these Mullahs give up their beliefs? It'll never happen, no
more than it'll happen with Pat Robertson or John Dobson. However we
can do all we know how to do to ensure that the next few generations of
Mullahs move towards moderation.
So, if they will not give up their beliefs, how do we ever change the
region? I believe time is on our side. Lets find ways to marginalize
the extremists and move towards moderation, even if it takes 5
generations. There's no rush, on our part. Lets get their youngest and
brightest in our schools, lets get subscriptions to Cosmo for the women,
lets get hair stylists for the girls. Lets get jobs for the men. Lets
do all the things we know how to do to marginalize the old ways. Is it
tough? Sure it is, but the current situation is pretty tough, too, for
a lot of people. Lets also get the more moderate Nations in the region
to take a bigger stake in the future of the region.
So what if it takes a hundred years, its the process that is important,
not the endgame.
