Yes, I categorically deny that that's true. The affluent areas hit were Lakeview, much of New Orleans East, the Gentilly area, and all of St. Bernard Parish. St. Bernard and Gentilly are working class areas, by and large. The lower ninth ward would be the poorest area. In terms of land area, New Orleans East is probably as large as the entire remainder of the city, and is home to the NASA space shuttle facility.
