#1- "had" You are right. Everyone acknowledged he had them. No one acknowledged he still had them. G Bush and Clinton got rid of all of them and that was known. The suspicion was that he'd made more. There was no evidence to support that, although GW told us there was and we believed him. That is why there is so much controversy about his 16 words in the State of the Union address. He knowingly lied to America and the World. #2- The Kurds were not "his own people" and were in fact aligning with Iran against him. We, the USA, were supporting their rebellion and we abandoned them at their moment of greatest need. Before you get to high and mighty about SH's actions, bear in mind that the USA left the Kurds hanging out to dry. We were just as responsible for their deaths as he was. Would you feel better if he had killed his enemies with guns? #3- No, there aren't any documents showing cooperation with Al Quaeda. None not one. Bear this in mind: Al Quaeda wants a Theocracy. Saddam felt theocracies were his natural enemy. Would you align with yolur natural enemy? #4-No, the bell hadn't rung. No troops were on planes or ships, no shots were fired. Besides, he had been cooperating with the UN. GW tells you they weren't, but the UN didn't agree with GW. GW was just in a race to war facts and evidence be damned. Check the facts, look at the history. It will be clear to you that this administration has a history of lying and distorting, right down to the prisoner abuse which is turning pretty horrific. Now it appears we are hiring mercenaries in Afghanistan to run their own private jails? That is just sick, just plain sick. --------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.martinvt.com --------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: Open discssion among iSeries Users Date: 07/27/04 19:26:51 To: Open discssion among iSeries Users Subject: Re: [CPF0000] Quote Who is drinking Kool-Aid now? #1 (that Iraq had WMD) - was acknowledged by all, left and right, the French, the British, etc. That none are there now is not a surprise, given the year he had to prepare and hide them. As you note below, we provided the makings of biological agents in the 1980's. To say therefore that he had none is contradictory. #2 (Saddam used WMD) - So what if it was years ago, the point is that he had no moral compulsion against using gas or nerve agents on people. #3 (Saddam sympathised with terrorists) - There were documented ties between SH and Al Queda. Further, this war was not just against Al Queda, but against terrorism in general. It is without dispute that Hussein supported terrorism in general. Heck, he paid stipends to the families of Palestinian homicide bombers. #4 (Saddam UN cooperation) - The bell had already been rung when, at the last minute, he filed a WMD acknowledgment report. But his history of not cooperation made it difficult to believe that this was not another ruse to stall, buy time, etc. The USA is not without blame in the rise to power of Saddam Hussein in the early 1980's. He was helped by the Reagan administration because he stood against the Iranians, who at the time were more dangerous. Remember that at that time there was also the Soviet Bloc. But, that complicity SUPPORTED our going in to Iraq, to clean up the mess that we helped to make.
