You still have to put an asterisk in column 15, and anything after that
(on the same line) is considered a comment.

It has been five years since I wrote COBOL to any extent and I'm sure
things have improved since then.

Is it possible to add comments to a line of code after the period? I
want to make notes on the actual line and not write a general comment
for a section of code. I need to label this stuff because GR-VAL7-2B
and TOTAL-CODE-93 need to be a bit more descriptive.
