A few people (and I think *very few people*) know how to write in MI
code. 
I don't think it's for the feint of heart:

It is a steep learning curve and there's really no point.  MI in many ways
these days is no more "native" than C - and since you can only produce *PGM
objects it is not a good choice for a frequently called function.  It is
fine if there is no other way to do it - or if you need pure horsepower for
a program, but C is a much better choice for short-burst functions that are
called frequently.
