I'm new to ILE COBOL. I'm trying to use the following date data types:
        01         DATE-FIELDS.
            05     BDATE               FORMAT DATE '%M/%D/@Y'
                                               VALUE '02/23/1949'.

            05     CDATE               FORMAT DATE '%M/%D/@Y'.

I get the following errors.
 *    72  MSGID: LNC1236  SEVERITY: 30  SEQNBR:  006700

I've used both apostrophe's and quotation marks, but no difference.
These are nearly identical to the examples in the IBM Manual. Any ideas
what's wrong?
