Finucci,

As a self professed COBOL newbie, I was not "aware" or how the AS/400 handled 
the DISPLAY statement, since everything I've seen
uses DSPF's.  Of course I should have thought of writing out the FILE-STATUS in 
the output at a minimum.  When I added this
code, I got a 23 at each delete.  That of course caused me to scratch my head.  
See my reply to Peter Lunde for the rest of the
answer!

Thanks very much...  Since I have not yet learned how to use the debugger, you 
can bet I'll be using the DISPLAY method as a
first resort!
