I think that the main reason behind them not wanting to give source code
out to new contracts is so that the upgrade path stays clearer in the
future. I think one thing that happens regularly when people move off the
platform is that a company has bastardized the code to the point that its
a coin flip to either convert all their changes and upgrade to LX or just
picking a new package. If they can keep people from destroying the code
then future upgrades won't be so "expensive". What they would rather see
is their customers using their new exit points to try and accomplish what
they need or pay infor for special mods that can be accounted for later
when they write their code so that upgrades are easier.

We have the code because of our contract being so old, so lets say I'm
familiar with the scenario they wish to avoid ;)

When we looked at LX about a year ago there weren't enough exit points for
us to do what we wanted, and we made mods that their new features didn't
really cover... hardly at all. Some people added "standard" business
process that got added as features later on so they were able to cut out a
bunch of mods.... however, we are not as "standard" as would be necessary
for this to help us. It would be impossible for us to upgrade without the
source at this point... especially since I've modified the scheduling
engine :)

Subject
[BPCS-L] LX Source Code Non-inclusion

In our negotiations with Infor regarding upgrading to LX, I was
surprised to hear that the source code is normally no longer provided to
licensees. To me this sounds like a gigantic hindrance but maybe I'm
misunderstanding the impact of this non-inclusion.

Can I hear from some of you on LX as to your feelings to this policy?
How has it hindered you? Have you even been negatively affected by not
being able to get to the "guts" of the programs?

Bill
