There are some programs they do NOT give you the source for. You may
think when you call program XYZ123 (or some such thing) it only converts a
date or some such thing. Sorry, no. It also checks your keys to see if
you're authorized. It's been compiled to some ancient release and has no
observability. There are a few of these. Most likely to occur with
programs which begin with SYS.

Lots of management makes the short sighted move of saving money by killing
maintenance. Makes it easier for the new 30 year old MBA to cost justify
new hardware and software and move to SAP.

You can upgrade your 270 to V5R4M5 (notice the M5?). Some of the new
hardware supports the M5. We, in fact, did that with a 270. Upgraded it
to V5R4M5. Moved it to Power 6. Upgraded that to 6.1 (then 6.1.1 then
7.1). But we worked very closely to get 6.1 compatible versions of BPCS
with Infor.
