Don,

In true 20/20 hindsight :), what we should do next time is check if the
facility is still locked when you answer the message in the morning.

Check file ZMF field MFULCK (I hope I spelled that correctly) for the
facility you ran in MRP. If the field is blank, then whatever was locking
the facility has already completed normally, and you don't need to run the
reset. If not blank, then you'll know whose job it is and can look to see
what is running.

The danger in running the reset is that, unless something ended abnormally,
whatever caused the lock is still active and the lock is legitimate.

Master Schedule Generation (MRP500) and Capacity Requirements (CAP600) are
both possibilities. If you allow more than one active job for the
subsystem, or if you submit to different subsystems, the jobs could have
overlapped and caused the conflict.

Les - what if Capacity was running at the time the MRP kicked off?

Hi Don,

Kevin is correct that the Reset Facility Locks option must be run to allow
MPS/MRP to run again. I believe you are on V4.05CD. On that version, the
option can be found on Menu SYS, Option 23 for System Reorgs Menu, Option
25 for Reset Facility Locks.

When MPS, MRP, or DRP generations run, BPCS places the UserID into the
Facility Master (ZMF) file in a field that indicates the Facility is
currently being planned. The reason is that for proper planning results,
you must run the planning jobs in a specific sequence. BPCS does not want
to allow conflicting planning for the same Facility to run simultaneously.
When your job terminated, it left a value in the ZMF file. The Reset
option will clear that value and it will also set a flag to tell MPS/MRP to
clean up workfiles from the prior run.

So, by running the Reset, you will again be able to run planning.
This addresses the problem, but it does not address why the program hung
originally.
What other jobs were running at the time? Was there another planning job
that was in process?

I hope this information help. If you have additional questions, please let
me know.

Thanks.

Hi Kevin,

I'll take a look at that - BUT - how could that be 'triggered' to lock ?

Thanks,

Don

Hi Don,

Try the program for

Reset Facility Locks SYS996D

I think it is on the SYS01 menu.

During the MRP run last night, the job hung with the above message.
Where do I o to clear that up? I entered a "C" to cancel the job.
