After my retirement announcement, I went around to various co-workers to ask
if they wanted me to show them how to get at stuff that they used to get
from me.

This led to some mini-classes on
* Query/400 navigation . how BPCS files are named, here is list of
most critical files for our operations, why use a logical, HERE is the IBM
manual on Query & which chapter is most critical, HERE is the manual from
when we did the Y2K conversion & had a formal class in query, cool functions
like LIKE, how to find Al's collection of query techniques such as
calculating on-hand (there is no one place in BPCS that has that),
efficiencies, how to avoid divide by zero, doing date math to get correct
results.
* How to get AS/400 report data into an Excel, and what to watch out
for, like minus sign giving Microsoft indigestion.
* OPSNAV and why to use one printer with SMALL # of reports . Don't
use WRKSPLF AL which has a year's worth of end fiscal reports.

I have found that if you show a person how to fish, and (s)he does not have
time to do any fishing, (s)he will have forgotten how within a few weeks.
Thus as much as possible the "how to" should be accessible via BPCS menus,
which is how come I had left menus with names like QRY and QUERY, and showed
people how to use PDM to find BPCSDOC where I have "documents" on query
techniques.

Subject: [BPCS-L] AS400 Query Beginner's Instructions

I have to instruct a few of our non-query users in how to start using
queries. I used to have a simple 10-15 page set of instructions, with
pictures, that worked pretty well for that, but find I must have loaned it
away one too many times.

Anybody know how I can find such a document on the internet?
