We do something similar when a customer has said they definitely will order
some quantity but they are unsure of dates of need.
1. We have safety stock on the customer item, where the customer has pledged
to compensate us if they ever not need that item any more.
2. We use a far out date like Dec 2010 for the claimed quantity, so it shows
up in $ on order, but not in MRP yet.
3. Along comes a specific need for say 25.
4. We change the order to say 25 needed right now, subtracting 25 from the
far off date.
5. We ship from the safety stock, using the right now order line for ship
bill.
6. The safety stock gets MRP to replenish itself.

Subject: [BPCS-L] Blanket P.O.'s - 405cd

Greetings,

We may have missed or misunderstood something, but is there any way to
effectively use BLANKET P.O.'s?

For example, we want to create one P.O. # (we refer to it as a blanket P.O.)
for say 500, but only create 1 release line, for a specific date, at a time.
Say we release 50 for November 1st, but don't want to release/order any more
just yet, and we are not SURE of the next date we will want more of this
part#. So, we want to leave the P.O. open, but show an OPEN balance of 450.

TIA
