Several places sell BPCS manuals, that contain this kind of information.

There are more out there.

BPCSDOC on-line with BPCS can drown you in information, while the manuals make things easier to see. However, you do need to be familiar with the BPCS logic manual (menber SSALOG00 of BPCSDOC) before attempting any modifications. If anyone on your project team is new to this computing reality, maybe they could use the IBM Redbook overview for BPCS.

Most order programs on your version are probably written in AS/Set.

Hi everyone,

I'm planning on implementing a new front-end order entry system but I
hadn't decided on the best method of getting the orders into BPCS (we're
on V6.0.02). My original thoughts were to use standard BPCS programs but
I haven't got the list of programs and their process sequence. If anyone
could help; point me in the right direction, etc? That would be a great
start for me.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Jim,

We have a couple of systems that front end BPCS Order Entry and we use 2
different methods to get the orders into BPCS.

Our web system takes orders and, after some shuffling of data, loads the
data into the ECM module files which are then processed by the ECM
module jobs that we have running in the background. This ensures that
ECM validates the orders as they are passed to BPCS.

We have another, internal, system that enters Quotations which we
convert to BPCS orders when the Quotation is accepted. This system does
a lot of the order validation and the conversion to BPCS loads straight
into the ECHW, ECLW and ESNW files and kicks off an ORD700 for the
order. The validation probably isn't as intensive as BPCS itself but
we've been using the system for about 5 years and have had no problems.
Kicking off ORD700 means having to set up the LDA and program
parameters, which was a bit trial and error in the first place, but
isn't actually too difficult.

Hope this helps. If you want any more details, let me know.

We are on a 6.0.04 system, starting to implement a new web based product
configurator as a front end to order entry. I am curious if anyone has
replaced ORD700 as the front end of order entry. If so, did you
continue to write to the work files and somehow automate the posting
process, allow entry of ECH/ECL records directly, make users go into
ORD700 for final checks and posting or some other method? Any input is
appreciated.

The front end configurator has been selected and purchased already,
please no solicitations on that front.

Thanks,
