BSTAT field in BBH -- BPCS-L

Since I did not get proper answer to my questions, I am posting same query once 
again:

What is the involvement of "R" in BSTAT field (in BBH) in split invoices?

Is it triggered by a split invoice occurrence? Or is this a flag 
triggered by something else that then triggers the split invoices ?
