If the problem session was interactive, and the end users signed off by time they tell you about problem, there will be no joblog. I created a copy of the BPCS JOBD for selected users to have them get extra logging, but training them to SIGNOFF *LIST even with a menu option to do so, was another lost cause.

I believe the function of the work station data areas is related to the concept that many different people could be doing the same kind of work at the same time, and this maintains separation of their respective inputs, for those people who know what we are doing when recovering aborted jobs.

For example, with ORD500, while a user is working on a new order, or order maintenance, the master files not updated until end user takes the save option ... by the different users simultaneously in there, and all using different work records until happy with the input, overall performance is enhanced. If they take wrong option ... unsave the input ... that input can be recovered from the work member, only if the user stays out of ORD500 until this is done because first ORD500 action is to blank out any work from a prior input effort. This is such a lost cause that I not pursue it any more.

It is pretty obvious that different programmers had a hand in different applications of BPCS and used various different techniques different places. I suspect the most important reason why something done one way or another is based on "a programmer knows how to get something to work that way." It might not be the best way, second best, or whatever, but it works.

Do you do a Pick PRINT (ORD560) after doing a Pick RELEASE (ORD550)?
Even if you don't need the paper, the system needs to go through the
process. You may also need to do Pick Confirm (ORD570).
--> There may be a way to change the system parameters to not require
these, perhaps one more knowledgable than I can enlighten us.

For reasons I have not yet figured out, BPCS uses "workstation data
areas" to control many functions. There is a data area (probably in
BPCSF) called ORxxxxxxxxx, where xxxxxxxxx is the workstation name.
The programs change positions in the data area to reflect progress
through the steps of a function (such as picking orders).

You can use option SYS993 (on the File Resets menu in my version) to
check on the status of the various data areas related to a
workstation, and to reset the workstation. If this is the problem,
resetting the workstation data area should take care of it.

If this doesn't help, please press F1 on the message and post the
details, as well as any relevant messages in job log from the job, and
the data area (DSPDTAATA).

Hope this helps.
