I too used AS/SET before it was used to write BPCS and although I do not use
the tool in my current role, I do know it is still upward compatible. It is not
however retro-version compatible as far as BPCS is concerned. So, even though
you can have multiple repositories ...V8 AS/SET should not be used with BPCS
V6.X repositories. V8 AS/SET may be used for products outside of BPCS.

The reason for this is that AS/SET was changed at V8 to produce ILE/RPG in it's
native form. To do this, some code was changed in the BPCS V8 repository. This
change has not been made in prior versions of BPCS and therefore the use of
AS/SET V8 on the BPCS 6.X version of the repository is not recommended as it
will cause unexpected results.

Hopefully this helps,

Kari

As one who worked with AS/Set for _years_ before BPCS was written in it, I
can say that there was _always_ upward compatibility with the product. Are
you saying that companies with custom (ADK) code cannot test V8 AS/Set
against their code base prior to deciding to upgrade to it? That they cannot
upgrade to it at all? Does SSA/GT offer a key to repository changes that may
affect existing code (instead of the usually worthless "Net Change Document")?
