Rick,

That is a very broad question.  The answer is, yes you can, but it depends on
what all you want to do.  If you don't wish to track anything through
manufacturing, you would not need shop orders.  If you don't use shop orders,
it would be difficult to use MRP for planning unless you use firm planned
orders to indicate planned production.
