Re: BPCS ECM & AS/SET

The long term advantages of AS/SET is ease of upgrade. It is much easier to
retrofit your mods into newer version using AS/SET. AS/SET also has
multi-platform generator. Currently you can gen C code from AS/SET and RPG.
I heard that new version of AS/SET will gen RPG ILE. If you ever decide to
go with GUI version of BPCS AS/SET and ODW is your only way to go for
display programs.
The disadvantages of AS/SET is its limitations. You cannot do in AS/SET
nearly as much as you can do in RPG. Despite the fact that SSA claims that
AS/SET will improve speed of development, it is slower to develop something
in AS/SET from scratch than it is in RPG. You also need to invest into
AS/SET training or hire AS/SET programmers.

Order acknowledgment is executed in order post process and not in ECM
itself. You can configure it in order class maintenance (print options).

Two Questions:

1)  What are the advantages/disadvantages of AS/SET over traditional RPG?

2)  ECM:  When we receive EDI orders, an Order Acknowledgement is
automatically generated (ORD508B).  Is this a standard function of ECM, or
does the user define which programs should be executed upon receipt of an
order?  If user defined, where?
