Al,
what I was trying to say was that if SSA decide to dump ASSET that is
no reason to assume that they wont continue to develop in RPG!
As for the argument of ASSET enabling cross platform development with
the bad-performance side effect, I would much rather be a master of one
environment than a jack of them all. If SSA want to write software for
platforms other than the AS400, they should develop it (utilising all the
benefits of those specific environments) individually or not at all.
In my opinion the AS400 is a very different breed of machine than the
HP/NT/Sun and such like systems (a fact which has made it the most widely
used mid-range platform, world-wide) and to try and cross them all with one
panacea is foolish. The AS400 is the backbone behind BPCS and as such, it
should be used to its full potential rather than being dragged down by an
attempt to conform to other environment needs!
