The 6.0.04 to 6.1.00 upgrade is a bit of a paradox as far as performance, 
IMO.  It varies by whether your are running mixed mode, full client, or UNIX. 
 On the client side, NT vs. WIN 9x variants can be a problem.  The real 
paradox comes from how you are running BPCS.  In my experience, most clients 
experience flat to slightly improved performance in the upgrade (due to the 
fact that some of the worst-performing programs have been optimized); 
however, certain functions used by a small percentage of the client base 
experience a performance degradation as missed SQL replacements of native I/O 
are found by SSA.

I am a strong proponent of 6.1.00, and would certainly not let minor 
performance issues delay my move from that piece of, uh, software know as 
6.0.04.  While better that the previous V6 releases, 6.0.04 cannot hold a 
candle to the stability of 6.1.00...
