Martha,

You're not dreaming.  Believe it or not, you need to create special ITEM
CLASS CODES and then enter these CODES in the CHARGE field in order lines in
Order Entry (instead of inputing an item # for the line[s]).
You don't enter a QTY for special charge lines - just the CLASS CODE and a
total amount for the charge in the EXTENDED field on the order line (not the
PRICE field).

You can also use these codes as notes (if you don't enter a price in
EXTENDED), but I've never known anyone to do this with order and order line
notes capabilities.

Since we're talking about using item classes for special charges, there's
almost certainly going to be CEA setup necessary (:-(  ) to start using
these (macro changes . . . .).
