thanks FOR THE FEEDBACK to this request

so far I have learnt 2 methods

1.In the PC file section of the file transfer , select details , then select
file type DIF.
2.on the Details box
on the Data Transfer From AS400 window, the file type drops down into
multiple
file types one of which is BIFF5(MS Excel 5). This also transfers the field
names from the AS400 physical file into the first record on the file - the
file
on the AS400 MUST have a DDS i.e. cannot be created through query etc. for
the
download to work properly.( This I have tested and it will download files
created from query)

What is interesting is that there is a difference in size between the 2
downloaded files

File downloaded using type DIF 58kb
                                BIFF5 41kb

For a samll size this wouldn't make a difference but for the larger files
downloaded it would.

Is there any major difference between the two formats?

Regards
Veronica

Subject: data transfer

Hello All

Could anyone please advise on how I transfer data down to excel from the
AS4oo using the data transfer option in client access but transferring it
down in the correct format.

ie if the as400 file has 4 fields I want the downloaded file to come down
with 4 fields rather than just throwing all the data into the first field.

Please advise

Veronica
