That may be trun however, When we take SQL statements out of SSA programs
and replace them with standard reads etc, we receive a 80% or better
performance improvement

ACR900 for instance ran 12.3 hours on Sunday with no users on and I gave the
job a pty of 30 and timeslice of 999999. I have heard through the grapevine
that customers have removed or rewritten SQL statements and WALA, the
program runs in 1/3 the time. Customers need and are demanding that SSA do
something. If it means getting IBM involved then they should do that.

                In reply to fkolmann@revlon.com.au:

The reply to your message was in fact very reasonable and
accurate. SSA
has committed a considerable amount of time and resource
with the IBM
AS/400 developers in Rochester addressing this subject.

The SQL optimizer takes many aspects of your database into
consideration
when deciding how to access the data. The key to this
statement is "your
data". It does not matter whether you have "out of the box"
BPCS or not.
The optimizer considers your data. It also depends heavily
on the level of
OS/400 and the database PTF's you have loaded on your
system.

If you require a more detailed explanation of how the SQL
Optimizer
functions please contact me. If however you believe I will
give a biased
opinion, please feel free to ask the same question to the
IBM developers.

                Regards,

                Peter Greenfield
