I've had a couple of clients run their AS400s over the Internet. They use
VPN for security and, frankly, I wonder why more companies don't do the
same.

Imagine this, if you have a fast connection to the AS400 and a cable modem
at home, you can get your work done from home at the same speed as from the
office.

Reliability has not been a problem and you could even use backup ISP's if
you want redundancy.

I think it is a great idea and can only encourage you to roll it out as soon
as possible. Besides, that puts you one step closer to e-commerce when you
are ready.

AS400 version 6.02 Mixmod

Is anyone running their full blown BPCS application via an Internet
connection verses the investment in a T1 or Frame Relay connection. I'm
looking at a remote facility with an ISDN line to a local Internet Service
Provider and accessing the AS400 connection via the Internet running all
aspects of the BPCS system. I'm curious about performance and speed via
the Net. I don't see this being a problem but was curious if anyone is
doing this.

If so, any drawbacks, etc.

Thanks
