A 1998 IDC study recognized a strong trend toward server consolidation
among AS/400 users, with over 49 percent of respondents considering
consolidation of servers or storage. Now with OS/400 V4R4, the role of the
AS/400 as an enterprise-class, consolidated server is enhanced with the
delivery of logical partitions (LPAR). Logical partitions let you run
multiple independent servers, each with its own processors, memory and
disks, within a single symmetric multiprocessing AS/400e. Elegant and
flexible, logical partitions dramatically increase the opportunity for
companies to cut costs and gain a competitive advantage through server
consolidation.

For more details on the capabilities of LPAR and eBPCS go to
http://www.ssax.com/partner/ibm/as400e.html. At the bottom of the page is
a link to the White Paper; Configuring your AS/400 in an LPAR Environment.

Hope this is useful.

Peter
