"Stepping through" is normal in _any_ cross-application conversion, but it 
should certainly be done _FAR_ in advance of going live.  It's not _EXTREME_ 
at all, more like standard operating procedure, but it _IS_ time consuming.  
Heck, we stepped through the 5.1.01 to 6.0.02 BPCS upgrade -- it took 
man-weeks, but we never would have found the mistakes and omissions in SSA's 
upgrade process without it.  Had we gone live "as is", we would have lost 
plant time which would have been _FAR_ more expensive...
