An 'S' Model AS/400 will not necessarily give you better performance.  If
you are running Mixed Mode BPCS you may get worse performance due to the
Green Screen element.  A change to this platform should be considered
carefully.

Rather than changing SQL code, try running DBMON to check if the Optimizer
is creating Access Paths on the fly, and create Logicals accordingly.  The
overhead of adding logical's if often far outweighed by the performance
gain.

subsequent records, save the access paths for the most commonly
referenced Logicals.
3)Replace it with an alternative product, Ironworks for example.
